CPD Event title: Wellbeing Wednesdays at WPF (Zoom) – Summer 2021 Programme (June Session)
Brief Description Of Event: We recognise that the last 12 months have been challenging for therapists many of whom have been called upon to work longer hours and to support clients with the global pandemic. These sessions are designed to specifically support therapists (including therapists in training) who may struggle to make space for their own wellbeing but recognise the importance of prioritising themselves.
The sessions will focus on wellbeing through art, yoga, dance, meditation, music and other topics. These sessions are for you if:
1. You can attend at lunchtime. 2. Have your clinical work at either end of the day. 3. May be starting to question emotional burnout. 4. Want to focus on self-care in a group with other practitioners. 5. Want to have a relaxing session in the middle of your working day.
All sessions will be on Zoom. You will need too WiFi with stable access to participate.
June Session – Wednesday 16th June 2021, 12pm-1pm – active relaxation techniques through yoga, movement and dance with Dr Veronika Rakli
Relaxation and “me time” is essential for renewing our own resources. However, during these recent challenging times, it can be hard to find time to unwind and a struggle to relax. Classic guided meditation and relaxation techniques can offer some help, but it can be difficult to know where to start if you’ve never tried it before. This workshop will help you to follow simple or guided relaxation/meditation techniques, and take time to rewind.
What you will need: No previous experience is required and there is no need ‘to be a dancer or a yogi’. Music will be selected by the tutor and shared through Zoom. Please bring your yoga mat or a comfortable blanket to join this event. Participants need to be in comfortable clothing to be able to move freely.
Dr Veronika Rakli is a Dance Movement Psychotherapist (2015 – Goldsmiths University, London), and aerial fitness, yoga professional. She has a decade of experience in the mental health arena and have worked with a wide range of client groups; including children, adolescents, adults as well as the elderly. At the moment she is working with people experiencing social exclusion in a supported mental health setting. Veronika is the founder of Floating Fitness London, a South East London based aerial fitness company, offering gymnastics, yoga and circus skills for children and adults.
Learning Objectives: By attending this lecture you can expect:
1. Explore the stories that live in the body through Yoga, Dance and Movement. 2. Be mindful ofthe body, it signs and signals. 3. Find more creative way of self-expression. 4. Learn how to cope with fears and everyday stress. 5. Use body movement to improve physical health. 6. Gain a deeper understanding of your own power to create health within you.
Course Structure: In Active Relaxation Techniques, participants use their body as an instrument to connect to their natural resources, through yoga, dance and other movements. The session involves different experiential exercises including body & movement meditations, guided visualisation, body tapping techniques and improvisational dance, all designed to awaken the body. Accessing the stories that our bodies can tell will help participants to rewind, relax and find ways to reconnect to their own power.
