Christine Ferris

Have you got an issue that is holding you back? Do you want to lose weight, manage day to day stress, manage something that makes you anxious or have you had a loss that you can't seem to move away from? Is there something that you would like help to work on and change in some way? I have gently helped countless people to change using carefully selected techniques that are uniquely centred on that person's individual preferences and resources. Although I specialise in stress, anxiety, smoking cessation, OCD, grief and bereavement, clients see me for a range of things and if yours does not appear here then please contact me to see if I can help.

What's involved in a session? If a programme of treatment is required, the first session involves identifying the goals you wish to achieve and any resources you either have or need to develop. It is devoted to your account of what you wish to achieve, any history that is important and a full explanation of the services I can provide. I will allocate 80 minutes for the first session. Subsequent sessions are normally 50 minutes. Following the first session I will develop a tailored programme specifically for you. The anxiety programme is based on the strong research evidence used to treat people with IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and involves 6/7 sessions. Single sessions are available if this is preferred.

Therapeutic models may include clinical hypnosis, guided imagery, emotional freedom technique (EFT), coaching, counselling, relaxation training, visualisation, cognitive behavioural approaches and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

I also provide therapy remotely using VSee. This is a secure telehealth platform. I provide a 15 minutes practice session so that you can experience it for yourself before committing.

Bereavement and other losses at a time of restrictions because of COVID-19 may raise issues for you. You may feel angry, scared, guilty or, perhaps restrictions have triggered aspects of OCD. I can gently help you to manage such issues.
I offer the result of over 45 years of experience of gently helping people both at the sharp end of the NHS, in Higher Education, both in the UK and further afield, and through voluntary work with post adoption and bereavement care. I have studied adult psychology and hold a PhD in diagnostic radiography investigating the development of specialism. I continue to support former students and speak in public. I have qualifications in hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, neurolinguistic programming, education, research, mentoring and coaching. I have studied IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) therapy, anxiety, OCD, bereavement, grief and am also a smoking cessation specialist. I chose to practise hypnotherapy because of the research that was done into IBS that shows how effective it is. I am dedicated to helping people and take delight in seeing people move on in whatever way is meaningful to them.

I work with those who consider themselves to be yo-yo dieters, people who have panic attacks, people who have difficulty in coming to terms with loss whether this is through trauma, bereavement, pregnancy or relationship breakdown. I treat people with a range of weight loss issues, stress management issues, complicated loss, grief, anxiety, unhelpful habits such as skin picking or hair pulling, phobias, self-esteem and confidence issues. I help people prepare for exams, tests, interviews and public speaking. I also coach and mentor students. I work as a volunteer with Cruse Bereavement Care supervising bereavement workers and seeing clients.

I am an associate member of the Royal Society of Medicine and a full member of the British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis. These memberships give me access to current research and CPD opportunities.

I offer a free 15 minute session for you to decide if I am the right person to work with you.

My fees are £90 per treatment session no matter how long the session is. Sessions vary from 50 - 80 minutes. The fee often includes additional telephone and email support outside the sessions and also covers e-recordings and any written information or reports. My aim is to treat all clients in the least number of sessions possible with maximum impact. If you are working to a strict budget then please discuss this with me and I can often adjust the programme of treatment accordingly.

For full time students in higher education my fees are £50 per session. If you are a member of the Armed Forces or hold a card to show you are a key worker in the COVID-19 crisis, the first session is free.

Please do feel free to contact me to discuss your particular requirements.

My practice is based in Todwick which is 5 minutes from J31 on the M1. Appointments can be made at a time to suit you and at a pace to suit your budget. Some people only need to attend for one session. Others prefer a programme of treatment which can be planned according to available resources.

“A great listener with years of experience. It was clear that she had really taken every little detail onboard. These qualities coupled with a wealth of knowledge make Christine someone that I would certainly recommend to anybody suffering from similar issues. Thank you Christine.”
