Overview
Hello, I’m Sue.
If you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed or stuck in your own head, you’re not alone — and you don’t have to work it all out by yourself. I’m a qualified Clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapist & Psychotherapist, and I work with adults and young people who are struggling with anxiety related issues including stress, burnout, overwhelm, low mood, depression, fears, phobias, anger, low self-esteem and confidence.
Many of my clients come to me feeling frustrated because they know things should feel easier, yet their thoughts, worries or physical symptoms keep getting in the way. My role is to help you understand what’s happening in your brain, regain a sense of control, and move forward in a way that feels achievable and realistic.
My work is strongly informed by neuroscience, helping clients understand how the brain creates anxiety and low mood etc. — and, importantly, how change becomes possible.
How I work
I use Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, which combines practical talking therapy with hypnosis, underpinned by clear, evidence-based brain science.
Clients often tell me how helpful the neuroscience is — understanding why anxiety, stress or fears feel so powerful, and what needs to change in the brain for things to improve. I explain this in a straightforward, accessible way, without jargon, so nothing feels mysterious or out of your control.
Alongside Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, I may also integrate:
Rewind Therapy techniques
Elements of Parts Therapy
Positive Regression
Coaching approaches
These approaches are not used randomly. Decisions are made during the initial consultation and reviewed on a session-by-session basis, ensuring the work remains structured, purposeful and tailored to you, while still being flexible enough to meet your individual needs.
What sessions are like
Sessions are calm, collaborative and forward-focused. We don’t dwell on the past unless it’s genuinely helpful.
Clients often describe sessions as:
Clear and structured, without being rigid
Grounded in science, but easy to understand
Supportive, calm and non-judgemental
Progress is reviewed regularly, so you can see how things are changing over time rather than wondering whether therapy is “working”.
Many clients say that understanding the brain — not just talking about feelings — is what finally helps things begin to shift.
My practice
I work from a dedicated, professional therapy room in my home in Huddersfield, as well as online.
The space is quiet, comfortable and private, with plenty of free parking and minimal comings and goings — something many anxious clients find particularly reassuring. This allows you to relax and focus more easily during sessions.
My background & training
Before retraining, I spent over 35 years working across manufacturing, wholesale and retail industries, including management roles. I understand first-hand the pressures, expectations and stresses that modern life and work can bring.
I trained face-to-face with The Clifton Practice, qualifying as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist. I hold:
Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH)
Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma (HPD – NCFE & NCH accredited)
I am a registered member of:
National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)
Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH)
Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)
National Board for Modern Psychotherapy (NBMP)
National Hypnotherapy Society (NHS)
To ensure my clients benefit from the most up-to-date research and best practice, I undertake regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
A little about me
Outside of work, I value balance. I’m married, have two sons, two cats and a dog called Willow (the inspiration behind my practice name). I enjoy walking in the countryside — especially the Lake District — gardening, reading (usually something brain-related!) and making time to properly switch off.
Next steps
If you’re looking for a therapist who is warm, professional, practical and grounded in neuroscience — and you feel I might be a good fit — you can book a free 10 minute discovery call on the booking page of my website or maybe book an initial consultation. Alternatively you are very welcome to drop me a message.
I’d love to hear from you.
