Beware of over-indulging this holiday season

For many, ‘tis the season to be merry. For others, the next two weeks (with Christmas Day and New Year looming) ‘tis the season to over indulge.
A recent study by researchers from the University of Chicago and the University of Michigan found that people often overindulge in an attempt to improve their mood. It can happen when you’re happy – and trying to prolong the happiness – or when you’re sad and trying to get rid of the blues.feast
“People strategically manage their actions both to accomplish their long-term interests and to attain immediate pleasures. If they believe they need to take action to regulate their feelings in the here and now, they tend to indulge in immediate pleasures. In contrast, if they believe such actions are not required, they act in their long-term interests,” the researchers wrote.
If you are currently in a state of mental unrest, be it financial worries, overworking, relationship troubles or any other negative emotional pattern, it can often be ‘the reason’ for that extra drink, another slab of chocolate or some other form of indulgence and, before you know it, overindulging may become second nature.
But help is not far away – it’s as close as your local hypnotherapist. The National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) has over 1,800 qualified and highly trained therapists as members. All you have to do is click on their directory, enter your post code and you will get details of your nearest hypnotherapist.
Over indulging is, quite simply, as problem behaviour and this is defined by the NCH as an unwanted habit or addiction; something you feel you have no control over which affects your life and the lives of those you care about.
Habits such as overeating or smoking are the most common, but there are many other behaviours that affect people’s lives, make them unhappy or cause a risk to their health and the health of those around them.
When you see a therapist they will let you know that you are in control and you can change how you react to certain situations. You can protect yourself in ways that are healthy and will allow you to you succeed and grow stronger in body and mind.
You just need to know how to change it, and to believe you can. The reason why hypnotherapy works so rapidly with bad habits and behaviours is because it works directly with your subconscious, bypassing the critical mind and getting to the root of the issue so that changes can be made that support your goals quickly and efficiently.
The therapist will assess your ‘problem’ and write a treatment plan for you based on a range of different techniques. They will then assess your commitment to the treatment, as the desire to stop the behaviour or change the behaviour must come from you.
It is not too late to break the habit of over-indulging. Over-eating at Christmas will see you putting on the pounds and will leave you feeling bloated, suffering from indigestion, and, if you are unlucky, having to deal with gastric problems.
But unfortunately, for an increasing number of people, says the BBC, over-eating is not just confined to Christmas, it has become a way of life. This has lead to an epidemic of obesity, and many associated health problems.
So, turn your life around and get hold of a hypnotherapist who can set your straight on the path to a better life.
