Fight obesity with hypnotherapy before a sugar tax

While MPs say a tax on sugary drinks should be introduced as part of a ‘bold and urgent’ set of measures to tackle child obesity in England, there is evidence that hypnotherapy can help beat that sugar addiction.

According to the BBC, the Commons’ Health Committee has said there was now ‘compelling evidence’ that a tax would reduce consumption. Its report, which puts pressure on ministers who have so far been resisting a tax, also proposes a crackdown on marketing and advertising.

But food industry representatives say a new tax would be unfair on consumers.

And the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) says that managing weight loss is one of the most effective results of hypnotherapy while hypnosis can also beat addictions like sugar and chocolate.

An addiction or bad eating habit can be broken through hypnosis and the NCH has 1800 highly-trained therapists across the UK on its directory who are qualified to help.

With one in 10 children obese at the start primary school in England last year and one in five obese by the end, according to the Health and Social Care Information Centre, these figures should act as a wake-up call to parents.

Another way to cut sugar is by reducing it in packaged foods, some health authorities say. It is an approach that has worked before, with salt. Fifty years ago, everyday products, from bread to tinned vegetables, had much higher salt levels.

Then, the government got involved and targets were set. A typical loaf of bread now has 40% less salt than it did in the 1980s, with about a 10% reduction in just the past three years.

Now, Public Health England says a similar programme for sugar – in products such as biscuits, cakes, puddings, yoghurts, cereals and drinks – along with reductions in portion size, would have positive health benefits.

But, with hypnotherapy, people who are in the grip of a food habit that they seem unable to control, can remove the hold this habit has through using hypnotic techniques, achieving this with a total freedom from side effects.

Hypnotherapy, says the NCH, is the application of hypnotic techniques in such a way as to bring about therapeutic changes. The therapist assists in activating the inner resources of the client in order to achieve realistic goals.

Using a range of different techniques, the hypnotherapist will relax the client, making them feel comfortable and then work towards achieving the habit-breaking goal.

Often change is very subtle, as the hypnotherapist will be working with the subconscious mind, and the client may just notice a very positive shift in how they are feeling.

When choosing a hypnotherapist to help, remember that the CNCH, the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council, was set up by the Department of Health in 2010 and it recommends selecting a hypnotherapist that is registered with the CNHC.
The National Council for Hypnotherapy, NCH, is the largest not-for profit hypnotherapy Professional Association in the UK and all members are given the option to join the CNHC.
