This specialist CPD session is designed to give Solution Focused Hypnotherapists the knowledge, tools, and confidence to support clients experiencing the physical and emotional side effects of cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Learn how to work safely and effectively with this client group, using the principles of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy during one of life’s most challenging journeys.
Learning Objectives:
The aim of this CPD session, is to give participants an understanding of:
* The cancer journey: Develop an insight into the physical, emotional, and psychological stages that clients may experience following a cancer diagnosis and during treatment.
* The side effects of cancer treatments: Explore the common and less-known side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, including their impact on mental health and daily functioning.
* How Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) can support clients through treatment: Understand how SFH techniques can be used to help reduce the side effects while supporting emotional resilience during cancer treatment. To Identify practical applications of SFH to help clients regain a sense of control and focus on positive future outcomes.
Review relevant case studies: Analyse real-life examples of clients who have benefitted from SFH during cancer treatment, to support the learning experience and further understanding.
Explore scientific research and evidence: Review current studies and clinical findings on the effectiveness of hypnosis and SFH in oncology settings, and understand its growing role as a complementary therapy.
Build confidence in promoting your services ethically and appropriately: Learn how to sensitively and confidently advertise hypnotherapy services for clients undergoing cancer treatment, in line with ethical guidelines and best practice.
Understanding the Cancer Journey
Objective: To gain a foundational understanding of what clients experience emotionally, physically, and psychologically during their cancer journey. Stages of the treatment journey: diagnosis, active treatment, remission, or ongoing care
Understanding the client’s emotional landscape and the role of hypnotherapy in offering support.
The Side Effects of Cancer Treatments
Objective: To understand the side effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and their implications for therapeutic work. To include the physical, emotional and social impact of a cancer diagnosis.
The Role of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy in supporting clients receiving cancer treatment.
Objective: To explore how SFH can be used to support clients during cancer treatment, emotionally, physiologically and in social environments, using the SFH prinicples of collaboration, future focus and the client’s own resources.
To explore some real-life Case Studies
Objective: To support learning and build practitioner confidence byt presenting anonymised case studies demonstrating SFH in action. To look at why SFH worked and to highlight learning points.
Scientific Evidence and Research
Objective: To review the evidence base supporting the use of hypnotherapy in oncology.
Ethical Practice and Promoting Your Services
Objective: To help practitioners feel confident and ethical in advertising their services to oncology clients. To gain an understanding of the Cancer Act and how this might impact how we promote this area. What to include (and avoid) in your advertising, website, and client materials.

Jenny Mellenchip is an award‑winning Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapist based in Stafford, offering both in‑person and online sessions. With over a decade of experience, she supports clients with a wide range of anxiety-related issues, including during chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments.
After a career in training, sales and marketing, Jenny trained in NLP directly with one of the founders, Richard Bandler in 2002 and the following year became a Licensed Training Specialist. By 2014 she had qualified in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH), followed by the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD) early in 2015 and the Advanced Hypnotherapy Diploma (AHD) in 2017 — the highest qualification in her field.
Jenny is also a hypnotherapy supervisor, accredited by the NCH and founded multiple SFH training schools. CPHT Leeds was her first school, which she ran successfully for 8 years before handing it over to her colleague. She now provides CPD training for fellow SFH practitioners.
