An expert in this field, your Trainer Julie May is an International Presenter on the subject of EBSA who has presented at the UKHC (the UK Hypnosis Convention) for the past three years consecutively, as well as across Europe.

 During the CPD, we’ll take a deep dive into EBSA, EMOTIONALLY BASED SCHOOL AVOIDANCE:

 What is EBSA and how can we as Hypnotherapists and Hypnotists help

• How does EBSA affect young people in education up to age 21 and beyond?
• Neurodivergence including ADHD and Autism, and EBSA.
• Working with ODD (oppositional defiant disorder) and PDA (pathological demand avoidance).
• Who and how can we help – the client, the parents and schools.
• How does our work with EBSA differ from our usual client work with young people?
• There will be demonstrations showing exactly how we use hypnosis and hypnotic techniques here.
• You’ll learn to work more fluidly than ever!
• Lots of solution focused questions and miracle questions to help our young clients
• The art and construct of particular language to support these clients
• And all these new skills are transferable, so you can use them straight away with other clients, including adults.
• New tools and techniques for your tool kit!
• Including some rapid inductions that work really well with children and young people, both online and in person.
• I’ll show you all this and more, with the very latest research, statistics, and a variety of case studies.

EBSA affects 20% of young people in education consistently, yet figures show it affects 33% of young people in education at any time.

Learning Objectives:

• You will learn what EBSA is and how we can help young clients with EBSA.
• Together with gaining a deeper understanding of neurodivergence, oppositional defiant disorder and pathological demand avoidance.
• You’ll gain a good understanding of how to work in a paid capacity with parents and schools. What this entails. Together with when it’s appropriate, and when it isn’t.
• You’ll learn and understand what type of hypnosis works very well with clients with EBSA, both in Sessions with us, and at home, including for better self-regulation.
• As well as what type of hypnosis isn’t as effective.
• You’ll learn rapid inductions that work excellently here. Live demonstrations will allow you to see these in practice.
• You’ll gain a deep understanding of the very latest research and statistics, together with the practical know how.
• You will come away from the Training day feeling confident and ready to work in this fast-growing area, with plenty of new tools and skills, together with lots of professional knowledge on the subject.

ABOUT YOUR TRAINER

 Julie studied the Psychology and Philosophy of Education at the University of Manchester. She works as a Hypnotherapist, a Supervisor registered with the NCH, a Trainer, Senior Lecturer, and Presenter/Speaker.

Julie is an International Presenter and Speaker, and regularly presents at the UKHC, the UK Hypnosis Convention in London. In November 2025 she presented at the UKHC on EBSA. Julie will present on the subject of EBSA at the FHHD 2026, the Hypnosis Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, in March 2026. Presenting work is an important part of Julie’s career, where she can help inform and educate hypnotherapists and hypnotists on important topics, together with providing training in specialised areas.

Julie also works as a Senior Lecturer providing training to staff from the NHS, Social Services and Camhs. She works with Children’s Charities in the UK to facilitate better understanding of communication in the area of children, young people and young adults. Julie is a Behavioural Specialist working with many children, young people, parents, families, couples and schools.
