Learning Objectives:
- Understand the role and responsibilities of a First Aider
- 1 Identify the role and responsibility of a first aider
- 2 Identify how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others
- 3 Identify the need for consent to provide first aid
- Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty
- 1 Identify when to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- 2 Demonstrate CPR using a manikin
- 3 Identify when to place a casualty into the recovery position
- 4 Demonstrate how to place a casualty into the recovery position
- 5 Demonstrate continual monitoring of breathing whilst the casualty is on the recovery position
- 6 Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty who Is experiencing a seizure
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking
- 1 Identify when a casualty is choking
- 2 Demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty who is choking
- Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
- 1 Identify whether external bleeding is life threatening
- 2 Demonstrate how to apply first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is in shock
- 1 Recognise when a casualty is suffering from shock
- 2 Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
- 3 Recognise suspected anaphylaxis
- 4 Identify ho to adminsister first aid for a casualty suffering from anaphylaxis
- 5 Demonstrate the use of a training device adrenaline auto-injector
- 6 Identify when a casualty is suffering a stroke
- 7 Demonstrate how to treat a casualty suffering from a diabetic incident
- Know how to administer first aid to a casualty with minor injuries
- 1 Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty with minor burns and scalds
- 2 Recognise suspected fractures and dislocations
- 3 Identify how to administer first aid for fractures and dislocations
- 4 Demonstrate how to apply a support sling and an elevated sling
- 5 Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with an eye injury
- Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected major illness
- Recognise suspected illness including:
Heart attack / Stroke / Epileptic seizure / Diabetic emergency
- Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty suffering from:
