Please note: you’re not paying for an individual meet-up. You’re enrolling in the full Advanced level course, which includes all monthly meet-ups and the complete course materials. Your enrolment also includes access to all Advanced Practitioner online materials, and if you can’t attend a live session, the recording will be made available so you can catch up. Live session links will be sent out each month.
This advanced training is designed for qualified hypnotherapists who want to deepen their clinical skill, expand their therapeutic toolkit, and strengthen professional confidence through structured, evidence-informed learning and practical application.
If you are a GHR member, you can qualify as a GHSC Validated Advanced Practitioner. If you are not a GHR member this course is recognised by the ACCPH as a Level 6 (degree level) advanced hypnotherapy course.
To qualify you should have 2 years post-qualification experience (by the time of your portfolio completion). You have 3 years to complete your advanced training, so can start learning at any point after qualifying at Practitioner Level.
What’s involved in the training?
- Advanced level hypnotherapy training takes you and your practice to a whole new level. You’ll learn how to work responsively and naturally with your clients, as you move away from being dependent on scripts (or make an informed choice when to use them).
- You’ll learn to question what you’ve been taught during your initial training – and understand hypnotherapy with reference to original research and theory.
- This is equivalent to a degree level course and you’ll be encouraged to become a more reflective practitioner.
- Having an advanced level qualification will also help you stand out from other hypnotherapists and attract new clients.

How do the meetups work?
These monthly sessions support both portfolio completion and advanced clinical development, with:- Focused teaching on a course topic (mapped to the portfolio).
- Deeper exploration of advanced practice themes.
- Dedicated Q&A time for portfolio questions.
- The meetups are an important part of what’s included in this course – being able to attend, or to watch the discussions online, is essential when you’re studying a course of this level.

Course curriculum
Module 1: Moving beyond scripts
This module helps you build flexible, clinically responsive hypnosis skills by learning when scripts support the work, when they limit it, and how to adapt language and session structure in real time to deliver ethical, tailored sessions.
Module 2: Advanced clinical Knowledge and Skills
This module deepens your clinical capability by introducing additional therapeutic models and strengthening higher-level judgement, helping you improve formulation, communication, boundaries, and work with complexity and unfamiliar presentations while staying within scope.
Module 3: Hypnotherapy theory and its application
This module strengthens your theoretical understanding of hypnosis by exploring different models and what they imply about suggestion, attention, dissociation, and change, so you can connect theory to practice, explain your work more clearly, and make better-informed clinical decisions.
Module 4: Behavioural and motivation theories
This module explores how change happens and why clients can feel stuck, introducing behaviour change and motivation frameworks you can use to improve formulation, goal-setting, relapse planning, engagement, and sustainable, evidence-aware hypnotherapy outcomes.
Module 5: Academic thinking and argumentation
This module develops degree-level critical thinking skills—logic, argumentation, and appraisal—so you can evaluate claims, avoid poor-quality information, and apply evidence responsibly in hypnotherapy and wider professional practice.
Module 6: Ethics
This module strengthens advanced ethical judgement for real-world, ambiguous situations, helping you protect the public, handle confidentiality sensitively, and apply ethical maturity consistently across complex clinical and professional scenarios.
Module 7: Research Methods and Application
This module builds practical research literacy so you can understand how evidence is created, recognise bias and pseudoscience, and locate, interpret, and apply hypnotherapy research responsibly without needing to become a researcher.
Module 8: Professional development
This module supports long-term advanced practice by building reflective habits and professional frameworks—learning from peers, consolidating learning through reflection, and setting clear next steps through a personal development plan so you can practise safely and sustainably.
